Youth Sports | Ages 2 to 14 Years Old

 

Parent-Tot Gymnastics
AGES 18 months-3 years

You will accompany your child on this gymnastics adventure! This class is mildly structured and focuses on gross motor skills such as balance, swinging and rolling while introducing beginning gymnastics skills. Parent participation required.

Tiny Times Gymnastics
AGES 3–5

This is an introduction to gymnastics for the preschooler/kindergartner. The class will explore beginning skills on the floor, beam, bars and springboard in a structured class environment.

Junior Level I Gymnastics
AGES 5-7

This class is for children ages 5-7 years old that have advanced past pre-school gymnastics.

Saturday Morning Sports Time
AGES 4-6

Weekday classes not fit your busy schedule? Here’s a chance to get the kids out of bed and up and running on Saturday mornings. Emphasis will be placed on following directions, developing gross motor skills, and learning basic sports fundamentals while interacting with new friends. Parental participation is welcomed as this program will give you an opportunity to spend quality time with your son or daughter. The 9:00 am class will feature a different sports activity each week. The 10:00 am time slot will be our instructional soccer class.

Roselle Raptors Travel Basketball Teams: Ages 10-13 – Tryouts are in September. This program is targeted towards boys who demonstrate above average ability and are looking to compete in more games at a higher level than our in-house Youth Basketball League. Mandatory tryouts (see below for dates/times) will be held for teams competing at the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade levels. Additional tryout days/time(s) may be scheduled if necessary. Prospective Raptors players must attend at least one tryout session. Families need to know that being a member of a Roselle Raptors team will require a major commitment of time and effort.  Parents are responsible for transporting players to and from all games, practices, and tournaments.  The Roselle Park District is not responsible for any additional expenses that may be necessary for out-of-town tournaments including accommodations, transportation, meals, etc. Players must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all overnight trips. There will be approximately 30-40 games scheduled along with a like number of practices. Typically games and tournaments will be played on weekends against teams from throughout the northern Illinois area. Practices will begin in October with the season concluding early to mid-March. Practice days/times will be dependent on the coach’s and gym availability. Due to the high level of competition, there can be no promises made in regards to playing time. Only in extreme circumstances will a partial or full refund be considered on a case-by-case basis. All uniforms must be paid in full prior to ordering. Registration fees are due by October 1 and do not include cost of uniform. If there is any interest in regards to organizing other girl’s travel team(s), please contact Ed Bjes at the Roselle Park District. Much of the above information, procedures, policies, etc. in regards to organizing a travel team is applicable.

Rookies Basketball League: Ages 6-7  
Teams consisting of first and second grade girls and boys along with an adult player/coach are forming now for our Rookies Basketball League. Double dribble?…No call! Traveling?…Who cares? The score?…Not an issue! It’ll be four-on-four with a Dad joining the action. It’s driveway basketball at its best. Each team will need a volunteer adult player/coach. Let us know on your registration form if interested. We’ll be looking for rosters of six to eight players with a parent player/coach. Monday or Thursday practices will start on November 26 and continue through the month of December. Home games after the first of the year will be held on either Mondays (7:00-7:55 pm) AND/OR Thursdays (6:05-7:00 pm). Away games at the Medinah Park District’s Thorndale Recreation Center will be scheduled based on gym availability there.  RBL t-shirt included for players. It’ll be slam-dunk fun!

Youth Basketball League: Ages 8-13   
The Roselle Park District offers both a boy’s and girl’s basketball league for kids in grades 3rd through 8th. Practices will begin late November with days/times dependent upon coach’s availability. Competition against neighboring park districts will start early January. Boys and girls are required to attend our Skills Demonstration Day which will assist in the league draft. Please make note on your registration form and inform our front desk staff if you would be willing to organize and instruct a team. Our youth leagues depend on volunteer coaches! If we do not get enough coaches, we may be forced to place too many players on each team hurting everyone’s playing time or cutting kids from the program who registered the latest. So please do not delay stepping up as our boys and girls can’t wait to start playing!

Basketball Classes Ages 4 to 9. 
Lil’ Shots: Ages 4-5. This program is our introductory class for future all star basketball players. Participants will be instructed on the very basics of the game. Girls and boys will have fun working on their dribbling, passing, shooting, and rebounding with drills incorporating these basic skills. Bring your favorite youth sized-basketball.
Small Shots: Ages 6-7. The basic rules, skills and strategies of basketball will be introduced along with drills, relay races and other fun activities. Scrimmage games may be played at the end of the session. Bring your favorite youth sized-basketball! This program is a great lead up to the Rookies Basketball League played after the first of the year.
Hot Shots: Ages 8-9. This program is an instructional class which will stress the fundamentals of playing basketball. The basic rules, skills and strategies of basketball will be introduced along with drills, relay races and other fun activities. Scrimmage games may be played at the end of the session. This is our “pre-season camp” for our Youth Basketball League which starts playing games after the first of the year. Hot Shots will get you off-and-running for league play. Bring your favorite youth-sized basketball.

Lake Park West High School Tennis Classes
AGES 5-18

These lessons will use a skill-based approach to develop all aspects of an individual’s tennis game. Innovative programs have been developed to accommodate a variety of ages, skill levels, and goals. Lake Park Head Tennis Coach Tim Martin will lead a staff of experienced coaches and players to improve athletes of all levels, ranging in skill from beginner to collegiate level. Ground strokes, including the forehand and backhand, along with proper serving technique and volleying will be taught. Footwork, mental strategies, and match-play tactics will be emphasized. This program will combine skill development with games and match-play to give the students a well-rounded and enjoyable experience. In the event there’s any question in regards to classes being postponed due to weather conditions, please call 630-894-4200 thirty minutes prior to start of class.

Lil Kickers: Ages 3-4. Parents will get a kick out of their child’s first instructional soccer class. Emphasis will be placed on following directions and learning the basic skills of soccer all while having fun!  Lead-up games involving running, kicking, dribbling, and passing will be played weekly. Classes will be held outside, weather permitting. Children will need to wear plastic shin guards.  Don’t forget to bring your size three youth soccer ball and water bottle. Classes may be moved indoors to the Clauss Recreation Center gym due to inclement weather or rescheduled for a day of the week other than scheduled. Please call our front desk (630-894-4200) an hour prior to start time if there is any question in regards to class being held outdoors due to weather and/or field conditions.
Big Kickers: Ages 5-6. This class will prepare your child to play in our Mid-Suburban Soccer League. Emphasis will be placed on learning the basic skills, strategies and rules of soccer all while having fun!  Lead-up games involving running, kicking, dribbling, and passing will be played weekly.  Classes will be held outside, weather permitting. Players will need to wear plastic shin guards.  Don’t forget to bring your size three youth soccer ball and water bottle. Classes may be moved indoors to the Clauss Recreation Center gym due to inclement weather or rescheduled for a day of the week other than scheduled. Youth Intro to Golf: Ages 9-16
This class begins September 3 and runs through September 19. This six class session taught by a certified PGA professional will introduce students to golf skills, rules, and etiquette. Clubs will be available for use; however students are encouraged to bring their own. Practice balls are included in the fee. Rain dates will be rescheduled as time permits.

Youth Tennis: Ages 4 and up.
We offer a wide array of tennis lessons and league play from ages five to adult held at the Centre Court Athletic Club. From beginners to competitive adult leagues and all skill levels in between, you will find Centre Court a top-notch indoor facility located at 1919 Walnut Street in Hanover Park. At the junior level, classes include Mini Smashers, geared towards beginners ages 5-7, up to the Junior Excellence level for players ready for competitive drills and match play. We also offer adult classes for beginners and intermediate level participants in addition to competitive singles and doubles leagues. Shotokan Karate: Ages 4 and up. 
Children and adults universally enjoy learning the art of karate. Classes are taught by Illinois Shotokan Karate Club’s expert instructors under the direction of John DiPasquale, four-time National Champion, U.S. Karate National Coach and President of the National Karate Federation of the U.S. Beginner students will not be permitted to register into the current session after the second class has met. Registration for continuers through advanced students will be accepted after the start date, but the full class fee is required.
PRE-KARATE:Ages 4-7. Young children will develop agility, strength and coordination skills through fun and creative activities. This program, specifically designed to work with growing minds and bodies, enhances memory and agility skills, too. Watch your child blossom while learning karate and having a blast at the same time!
YOUTH / ADULT KARATE: Ages 8 and up. Karate builds coordination, agility, strength and poise, as well as establishes lasting personal safety skills. The mental aspect of karate is equal to if not greater than the physical. Practicing this art results in increased self-esteem, in addition to enhancing discipline and control. From work to home, the benefits of karate can be felt in all aspects of life.
PARENT/ CHILD KARATE: Ages 7 and up.  An excellent opportunity to spend quality time with your child, while conditioning muscles, developing coordination, and improving cardiovascular fitness.
Uniforms and Belt-Testing are options available through the ISKC instructor.-Please note that the Youth, Parent/Child and Adult classes may train together. The RMSBO is a not for profit organization providing recreational baseball and softball for the youth of our community. The RMSBO has been contracted by the Roselle and Medinah Park Districts as the recognized youth baseball and softball program in the area with nearly 500 participants annually.
