Dance Academy (AG)
TWIRLING TWOS: Twirling twos is a 45 minute class designed for our youngest dancer who is eager to learn the basics of dance by using interactive songs and props. Dancers will learn basic dance and creative movement along with listening and social skills. This class runs September through May to ensure a positive transition into the dance classroom; the dancers will be comfortable with the studio room, instructor, and peers. Parents are welcome to join their tiny dancer with the goal of being an independent dancer by following May.
Class Attire: Dancers should come to class dressed in a leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes and hair pulled back. Tutus and dance skirts are permitted.
KIDDIE COMBO: Kiddie Combo is an hour long class which offers two fundamental styles of dance which entail ballet and tap. This class will consist of 30 minutes of ballet and 30 minutes of tap. Dancers will learn basic elements of both dance styles in a fun and interactive way.
Class Attire: Dancers should come to class dressed in leotard, pink tights, ballet shoes AND tap shoes with hair pulled back. Tutus and dance skirts are permitted.
SLASHIES: Our slashie class is an hour long class designed to introduce the young dancer to different styles of dance. Classes will consist of ballet/tap and acro/jazz. Dancers are welcome to enroll in both classes to explore new styles of dance. Classes are split into thirty minutes of each specified dance style. This is a fun way to learn new forms of dance as the young dancer broadens their dance horizons.
Class Attire: Dancers should come to class dressed in attire appropriate for the class they are taking. Ballet/tap: Leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes AND black tap shoes.
Acro/Jazz: Leotard, tights, dance shorts and black jazz shoes. Hair is in a bun.
DANCE EXPLORATION ENRICHMENT: Dance Exploration will allow the dancer to kick their heels up, shimmy, shake, twist, shout, and turn all about while they try out different styles of dance. While dancing their hearts out, dancers will learn the importance of stretching, basic dance terms, simple choreography, and play dance games. Props may be incorporated with this class to build interest for the young and new dancer. The dance instructor will focus on basic movements and steps and the students will leave with basic dance knowledge of different styles. Dancers should bring a sack lunch.
Class Attire: Dancers should come to class dressed in comfortable bottoms (shorts, leggings, sweats, tights, etc.), comfortable top (t-shirt or tank), or a leotard, and ballet or jazz shoes.
BOYS HIP HOP: Boys hip hop is a fun and upbeat dance class where they will learn body isolations along with trendy hip hop movements. This class is designed to create a positive and fun environment for the active boy to express themselves through dance and upbeat music.
Class Attire: Boys should come to class dressed in comfortable bottoms (shorts, sweats, active pants, etc.), comfortable top (t-shirt or tank), and Black hip hop or clean black gym shoe.
BALLET: We highly recommend every dancer take a ballet class as it is the foundation for all other dance disciplines. This class is structured to incorporate technique, flexibility, body alignment, poise, and terminology. Ballet is the core of all dance techniques and will help dancers planning to pursue a higher level of dance in the future.
Class Attire: Dancers should come to class in a leotard, pink tights, pink canvas ballet shoes with hair in a ballet bun. Ballet shorts and skirts are permitted.
LYRICAL: Lyrical is an expressive form of dance which allows the body to tell a story with their movements. This class is structured to incorporate ballet technique and flexibility in a fluid and graceful manor. Ballet is highly recommended to take alongside with this class.
Class Attire: Dancers should come to class dressed in leotard, pink or tan tights footless or convertible tights, foot paws or barefoot, and hair in a ballet bun. Dance shorts are permitted.
JAZZ: Jazz is a fun, upbeat style of dance which demonstrates technique, body alignment and flexibility. This class is structured to incorporate technique and flexibility used at a high energy. Dancers will learn the specific differences between ballet and jazz techniques as well as jazz terminology.
Class Attire: Dancers should come to class dressed in a leotard, tights or leggings with black jazz shoes. Hair is in a bun or ponytail.
TAP: Tap is an extremely unique style of dance. This class incorporates creating different sounds with your feet while learning tap techniques and terminology. This class will help dancers learn rhythm, coordination and counting music.
Class Attire: Dancers should come to class dressed in a leotard or tank top, tights, dance shorts or leggings and black tap shoes. Hair is in a bun or ponytail.
HIP HOP: Hip Hop is a fun, upbeat, and free-formed style of dance. This class is structured to teach dancers body isolations, and how to move their body in sharp percussive movements as well as smooth and softer movements. This is a high energy class in which dancers will learn to move with the music to a variety of different combinations.
Class Attire: Dancers should come to class dressed in a leotard or tank top, tights, dance shorts or leggings and black hip hop shoes. Hair is in a bun or ponytail.
ACRO: Acro is a style of dance that combines ballet technique with acrobatic elements. This class is highly recommended for dancers who want to improve their flexibility and strength, as well as their dance and tumbling skills, in a fun and positive environment.
Class Attire: Dancers should come to class dressed in form fitting clothes (leotard, tank top, dance shorts, leggings etc…), no shoes (barefoot) and hair in a bun or ponytail.
Pre Pointe (NEW): Pre Pointe is the stepping stone for our serious dancers to continue their ballet training on to Pointe. The foundation of this class is strictly ballet and designed to focus on building and strengthening ankle and foot muscles to ensure a safe transition to Pointe. All dancers are required to take Pre Pointe in order to be evaluated for Pointe. It is the dance instructor’s decision to invite dancers to continue on to Pointe.
Attire: Please come to class in a leotard, tights, dance shorts or skirt and ballet shoes with hair in a bun.
Pointe (Pre-Pointe required) (NEW): Pointe is the art of demonstrating Ballet technique while wearing Pointe shoes. Pointe shoes have a hard, full soled shank with a boxed toe to ensure dancers go fully onto Pointe while in relevè. Pointe is run similarly to a ballet class in terms of structure and discipline. Pointe demands strong ballet technique and proper muscle. Dancers must be invited by their ballet instructor to enroll in this class.
Class Attire: Please come to class in a leotard, tights, dance shorts or skirt and Pointe shoes with hair in a bun.
Adult Dance Class (NEW): These classes are designed for anyone over the age of 18 who is looking for a fun and upbeat dance class. Adult Dance Classes are a great way to learn a new style of dance and/or brush up on a style of dance you’ve previously studied. If you’re looking for a fun form of exercise Adult Dance Classes are the way to go! Our instructors make each class enjoyable for everyone!
Class Attire: Please come to class in comfortable form fitting clothes with proper shoes (Black Tap shoes or Black Jazz shoes depending on the class.)
Adult Barre (NEW): Adult Barre is a class designed for adults to incorporate elegance and poise while performing ballet infused exercises at the barre and away from the barre. This class is designed to focus on toning legs, core and arms.
Class Attire: Please come in comfortable form fitting clothes. Ballet shoes or socks are recommended.
DAD’S DANCE (NEW): Don’t be shy dads; it’s time to show off your moves at our annual Spring Dance Recital! This is a short 5 week class designed for dads who have a child participating in Roselle Park District Dance Academy. You will be taught a unique dance to perform at our Spring Dance Recital.
Class Attire: Please come in comfortable clothes and gym shoes.
Dance Academy (AG)
Tiny Dancers: AGES 2-6 years Level 1: AGES 7-9 years
Level 2: AGES 10-12 years Level 3: AGES 13-18 years
When choosing a class for your dancer please place him/her in a class based on age, prior dance knowledge, and skill level. If your dancer has not previously taken dance they may be better suited for a lower level class to get the attention they need to succeed as a dancer. Dancers should come to class in the required attire, always have their hair pulled away from their face, and bring a labeled water bottle. Dancers are encouraged to register for more than one dance class if they are looking to further develop their technique, skill, and depth. Dancers should be the required age for the class as of September 1, 2016.
Winter/Spring Dance fees cover the 16 week session of classes. There will be NO CLASSES the week of 3/27-4/2 and 5/8-5/14. These weeks will be used for makeup classes as needed (parents will be informed of makeup dates in advanced). There will be no additional costume fees. Costumes are already accounted for in the initial dance registration fee. Please note Adult classes will not include a costume fee. If the adult class wishes to perform in our annual recital costumes will be discussed on a case-by-case basis. All classes performing in our annual Spring recital will be required to attend dress rehearsal Friday May 12th at Lake Park High School West Campus.
